Product Ecology is a consulting group focused on strategies, advice, products and services for environmentally progressive organisations.
EcoDesign, Design for Environment, Sustainable Product Development, Product Stewardship strategy and environmental communications are our core capabilities. We demonstrate how the sustainable application of design, products and services can succesfully advance your product or organisation. Our aim is to support companies, agencies, associations and other consultants to manage socio-environmental issues in a realistic and cost-effective way.
Product Ecology is committed to the practical application of Product Stewardship, eco-efficiency and industrial ecology. We also recognise the value of strategic thinking and durable outcomes. Effective sustainability outcomes depend on trans-disciplinary approaches that can generate worthwhile outcomes with widespread benefits.
We understand how innovation can enhance the life cycle environmental performance of products, spaces, services and programs. Sharing this knowledge with clients and project partners underpins our approach and creates value for business, end-users and the community. Product Ecology is locally grounded with an international outlook. Current projects with industry and government span Australia, New Zealand and Northern Ireland.
A major ongoing initiative for Product Ecology is the development of a national Product Stewardship strategy and take-back scheme for the Australian consumer electronics industry, as well as administering Product Stewardship Australia Ltd (PSA) - a new Producer Responsibility Organisation comprising members such as Sharp, Sony, NEC, Philips, Samsung and others. For more information about Product Stewardship, eWaste and proactive work by the Australian consumer electronics sector, visit the PSA web site.
Further upstream in the product life cycle, Product Ecology is working with EcoRecycle Victoria, RMIT's Centre for Design and the Design Institute of Australia (Victorian Chapter), on the development and dissemination of user-friendly Design for Environment Quickstart tools and associated case studies. More on this in the coming weeks. Visit the EcoRecycle Victoria web site for a preview of this work and some useful downloads.
